When Pawel Kalkus isn’t studying for his university degree, he finds time to share his wealth of knowledge by writing articles for EzineArticles. In early 2009, he started writing articles to share professional dog training advice he’d learned over the years. As an Expert Author, his current goal is to summarize all of the most useful bits of knowledge he has gained through trial and error.

Secret to Success

According to Pawel, the secret to his success as an EzineArticles Expert Author is his ability to establish and follow through on a writing plan. He says, “I make my own 30-day calendar every month and write down how many articles I can manage to do each day.” Then, at the end of each day, he goes back to his calendar and checks on his progress. What sets him apart from other authors is that he implements his plan patiently. Early on he discovered that sometimes things get in the way of the plan. Sometimes an article idea doesn’t pan out the way he intended or external circumstances get in the way of him sticking to his plan. By aiming high at first and staying flexible, he doesn’t get discouraged if a writing session turns out differently than he expected.

  1. What sets you apart from other Expert Authors?

    Because I am passionate about many areas, I write about a diversity of unrelated topics. This range includes professional development used in the corporate world such as “How to be a Successful and Empathetic Negotiator” and “Writing Business Reports that Everyone Will Want to Read.” I also write for the personal development market on skills to live an empowered, happy and fulfilling life. Another area I am passionate about is supplying parents with drug-free alternatives for raising a happy, well-adjusted child who has either ADHD symptoms or has been diagnosed with ADHD. Equally, I’m fascinated by how the brain functions and how we can look after it to serve us optimally into our centenary years. In addition, I integrate several modalities such as self-hypnosis, NLP [Neuro-Linguistic Programming], TFT [Thought Field Therapy] and hand reading in my arsenal to help people get over challenges in life.

  2. What’s your secret to article writing and marketing success?

    Have your reader in mind when you write an article. Ask yourself, “How will she or he benefit from what I have written? Will the article make a lasting impression?” That is the only way it can really be effective. Write from the heart. Write as though the person was sitting in front of you and you are having a conversation with each other. Just write what you are really passionate about and what can make a difference.

Quick Case Study: Marcia Yudkin

Marcia Yudkin is the author of 11 books, including 6 Steps to Free Publicity, and hundreds of magazine articles. She’s currently a marketing consultant for businesses around the world and helps judge the “Inc. Magazine Small Business Web Awards.”

Marcia has also taken on the role of Expert Author on EzineArticles. With years of writing experience behind her, Marcia uses each of her published articles as a roadmap for her next ezine writing and marketing opportunity. Expanding on content in previous articles is a way to write material that contains plenty of new information and builds on the ideas of previous submissions. For example, she says, “Where you’ve collected many do’s and don’ts in one article, break them out in more depth. Each point getting its own article-length treatment.” This type of strategy helps Marcia write more about each topic she covers and stay detail-oriented.

She also re-purposes content across different platforms to build her online presence. “I like to participate in online forums and lead teleseminars. My explanations in those venues often get reworked into EzineArticles pieces.” She continues, “Tips that I have written up as articles then reappear in books, and vice versa.” This is one way to build your reputation as an expert across a variety of platforms to reach new audiences.

Re-Purposed Vs. Rewritten Content

Re-purposing content is a great strategy if you are using different platforms in your article writing and marketing campaign, but Marcia reminds us that there’s a distinct difference between re-purposing content across different platforms and rewriting it. Rewritten content provides no new information. She says, “Article spinning is a technology-assisted way of creating multiple articles with different wording. The articles say exactly the same thing, but cannot be easily flagged as duplicates.” She adds, “To me, article spinning is a trick created to game the system and does not benefit the public.”

Shirley Bass always has her mind on finding her next article idea. Shirley, the owner of GiftBasketJewels.com, looks for inspiration when she is going through any shopping experience. She uses her experiences to inspire article ideas for her next writing session. Using this process, article ideas are never scarce and she doesn’t have to force herself through brainstorming sessions. She says, “One never knows where inspiration will come from unless they are tuned in to what’s going on around them.”

Often Shirley finds herself faced with a problem and wants to help others who face similar circumstances, so she writes an article on the topic. She says, “I thoroughly enjoy helping others get what they want. It’s exciting to me that we have the opportunity to write and have those words found by readers who want what we have to offer.” By feeding off of the needs of others for article concepts, she stays ahead of the game with new ideas.

Designing a Consistent Writing Formula

Shirley credits her success with finding a consistent writing formula which took her some time to discover. “Never allow what you think of your writing skills to influence your confidence. Play with it, have fun and keep working on it, because it will work itself out,” she says. Over time, she has come to the realization that readers crave details. Now, she uses real world examples to fuel future article ideas and then injects her own personal experiences to provide the extra details.

I do not feel different from other Expert Authors, but I do think that when you see something working, you have to stick with it. Many “ways of making money online” simply do not work, so if you find something that starts to [work], keep building on that. I find that it helps to plot every month’s earnings on a simple graph.

  • What’s your secret to article writing and marketing success?

My secret to being able to write a good article is to find a good topic. I choose my topics in relation to the website I am promoting. So, first comes the website that I have created on an issue or subject that interests me. I always know something about the subject, but sometimes not much. Out of pure interest, I will research that website’s topic and ideas come automatically. Success is relative, mostly relative to hard work.

He has also found success in writing on other topics of interest to him. “Unlike authors that only focus on one area of expertise, I try to write articles on a broad range of subjects,” he says. By focusing on the topics he is interested in, he has expanded his writing efforts to all corners of the home improvement category and beyond.

Commitment to Quality

Matt’s secret to success is writing quality articles that are informative, concise and clearly written. The first step in this process is to get the facts straight through research. According to Matt, “Readers are going to be turned off by unreadable, inaccurate articles. The only buzz that kind of article creates is negative.” Although he admits it takes him a little longer to do research and editing, the end product is worth it to him and his readers.

Staying Motivated

By making article writing an integral part of his marketing plan, he doesn’t struggle to stay motivated to write. “I write articles because it makes a big difference in the buzz about my sites,” he says. “It’s an integral part. I rely on it to create buzz and drive traffic from sources other than just the search engines.”

He finds inspiration by answering the questions of real clients and learning about other topics that interest him. His writing is then sought out by others with the same interests, whether that be home improvement lessons, energy-efficient products or corporate bankruptcy regulations.

The one piece of advice that Matt follows in every article is that a little bit of research can do a lot to maintain credibility. But he warns: “Even if you think you know the subject inside and out, it never hurts to check your information.”

I’m not sure I’m the person best placed to say. All I can say is that I am passionate about providing my market with the best information, in the most easily accessible format that I possibly can. To that end, what I write is extremely open and honest. I’m also very persistent. When I had, 5, 10, 20, even 30 articles published, I just kept on writing and publishing them.

  • What’s your secret to article writing and marketing success?

Listening to my niche; what they say, what their problems are, and then offering them a constant supply of information, and a new perspective. A lot of my work is with people who are stuck in bad relationships and have low self-esteem. Now these people are bright, able people who are held in high regard by everyone except a critical partner … and themselves, of course. I see it as my role, in everything I write, to get them to ask themselves: “Is what I believe really true? How do I know that it’s true?” Once they start to ask better questions, they are well on their way to shaking themselves out of their trance of negativity. If they need help in doing so, then I am very happy to provide them with further help through 1-2-1 and group work.
