Expanding Subcategories: 27 New Additions

Expanding our grand total to 700 niches!

We recently completed a review of the subcategories (niches) we offer to authors for organizing their articles. Despite our ever-growing list of categories, we continue to receive articles that don’t really fit into any of our existing subcategories. When that happens, we note the potential new category and watch for more article submissions that match that topic. When there’s enough activity to warrant the addition of a new subcategory, one is created.

Below are the 27 newest subcategories.

Nice thoughts, nice new categories. But my dream is yet to be fulfilled! Long long back I suggested a new category ‘Satire’ along with Humor in Arts & Entertainment. Still hope!

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM

Social criticism with wit? :)

What type of content would you think fits here?

Thanks Penny. Yea, right! We need to focus on bad or ugly or hilarious customs or beliefs of our society and just Humor cannot take care. Or you can say black humor, of course subject to your guidelines. For example, my articles on Indian Serials were put in Movies & TV category. I had given for Humor category, but Satire category would have been just right. Now the whole sense of those articles is lost.

I’ll add it to the list for review. :) Thank you!

Still no “Environment” Main Category ?

We have not added new MAIN categories yet but I do see that it is on the list for review when we do. :)

P.S. I will miss out on the HAHD challenge this time after doing over 200 in the last one, because i find myself writing gibberish to fit into an existing category rather than on my niche topics…

how to keep things organized in an ever changing and every expanding world… what a job.

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 2:35 PM

This is a very good idea. But, what happens to the old articles which we seems to see a better category for it in the new arrangement? Do we go back to re-submit it again in the new category? David (desitoglobal)

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 2:39 PM

We go back to your articles and review whether or not the old articles will fit the new categories and change them for you if needed.

If you have an article that did not change and would like it to be, simply go edit the article and change it.

William Post writes:

This is a good idea. I also find myself looking for a good category to post in. Once place even rejected an article on account of it being posted in the wrong categories!
EzineArticles are great!

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 2:59 PM

Any chance of allowing us to post our articles under more than one category? I’m sure it would increase viewership and make it easier for readers to find what they are looking for.

Thanks again for a great site!

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 3:00 PM

No. :)

Only one category selection per article. It forces you to narrow your topic. If you want to deliver in two niches, write an article for more than one category and tailor each one specifically. Your readers will appreciate the 1×1 attention.

Michell Dillman writes:

Yes, this is all so good…

It is clear to see, EzineArticles is leading the way in Internet article and information websites.

Thank you and Congratulations,

Clair Schwan writes:

Much of my writing, and that of my team, centers around a general theme of self reliance. There exists a Survival-Emergency category, and that touches on some of the things we write about, but nothing to support the culture of general self reliance and becoming more self sufficient. Neither is there a category for homesteading, the core interest of many self reliant individuals.

For many of my articles, I find niches, but for articles that encourage individuals to be their own life manager and be more self-directed, I find nothing suitable under Self Improvement.

Perhaps Homesteading should be established under Home and Family, and Self Reliance and Self Sufficiency should be established under Self Improvement.

We’ll add it for review on the next round. Thank you for the suggestion.

Lots of great new niches here. Just let my community know over on my site. Great work – as usual folks!

Dave Henry writes:

One of my niches happens to be beekeeping and I have categorized my articles under Crafts-Hobbies.

I see now that the new category of Pets: Insects-Arthropods-Arachnids now encompasses this niche topic.

Do I now need to manually re-categorize my current articles and have them under review again or can I request that they be seamlessly moved over to the new category?

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 6:30 PM

We do go through them and make category changes based on your keywords. If your article was not changed and you want it to be, you can go back and edit it.

Samuel Amaechi writes:

The new subcategory grouping is a welcome development.
Great accomplishment.

Lance Winslow writes:

I think these additions are awesome, and I love your push-pull approach in creating new categories when you are getting lots of articles submitted do not fit in any current categories properly. This makes absolute sense.

Indeed, along with this strategy you imploy, I’d like to suggest another strategy to compliment this one. Namely, create NEW categories that you want articles in. And then go out into those sectors and contact people and invite them to be authors. I know way back when you started you did it this way. But now with mega-numbers of authors it might not seem intuitive to continue, still, I have a hunch it might be.

Especially in the Business Section for instance, as there are many industries not represented at all. Why not invite them into the world of Online Article Marketing.

Of course, I am completely happy with these additions, I was just thinking out loud based on one of the comments here. I love EzineArticles, you folks are really COOL (pun intended, I’ve been watching the cold snow storms there.).

Comment provided December 22, 2010 at 7:37 PM

Lance, as always, thanks for the input. That’s not a bad idea and perhaps one we’ll pursue.

And you’re right, things are a bit cool here right now, but also quite beautiful. It’s the perfect weather for the season! :-)

This is a good chnange as this not only help the authors to know there field of interest and also give an idea to the new authors to work n particular topics. Apart from these categories there can be more categories as writing know no limits…………

Great work as this not only help the old authors to know there area of interest but also help the new authors like me to expand their writing on these certain topics. BUT THERE SHOULD BE MORE CATEGORIES AS WRITING KNOW NO LIMITS……..

AGREED! And we will keep working at it!

Pat Barnars writes:

Might I suggest you add a catergory on COLLECTING.

This is a huge area with tens of millions of people collecting all sorts of things such as art (which I am involved in) autographs, antiques, books, figurines, militaria, models, stamps, toys – if you check Google’s Collecting Directory you will see hundreds more things that people collect.

People who collect are passionate about their subject, almost always knowledgeable, and would be encouraged to write about them if there was a catergory available to them.

How about it?

Comment provided December 23, 2010 at 4:10 AM

Nice suggestion. I have added it to the list for next time. :)

We continue to add to an ongoing list throughout the Year, Generally, we make the additions to the existing pool of niches 2-3 x’s per year.

Paula Clements writes:

It is good to have so many new categories. I wonder however if thought could be given to another.

A new category under Sports and Recreation for the Equestian industry would be very helpful. Equine management, together with the training of horses for the various disciplines within the sport, do not necessarily fit s well under pets. Neither would the professional or semi professional equestrian search under pets for further information on the equine sciences.

Comment provided December 26, 2010 at 3:20 AM

Lance Winslow writes:

Paula, I like that category too, and would actually like to see more “Industry Categories” in the Business Section, because there are so many folks who could join us all here, and write about their specific industry, many of whom have no home, and are stuck trying to get their articles published in trade journals, while so many trade journals are folding under economic pressure.

I have added it to the running list. :)
