9 Qualities of a Great Article Marketing System

How to be sure the site you submit your articles to is worth your time, effort and content.

At EzineArticles, we’re not afraid of a little competition. As a matter of fact, we encourage it! We know the only way for you, and all of our members, to truly excel at article writing and marketing is for each of you to consider the competition carefully and use their services when it’s appropriate and beneficial for you.

Unfortunately, in the realm of article marketing services, there is a lot of … um, crap out there. Since it’s in our mutual best interest for you to be successful in your marketing efforts, we wanted to give you the knowledge you’ll need to separate the great online article services from the aforementioned crap.

In this video, I’ll take you through the 9 qualities and features you should look for in identifying a great article marketing system. When you’re done watching, you should be able to recognize a good sign and instantly spot a red flag. The 5 minutes you invest watching now could save you a lot of time, effort and heartache down the road.

If you’re more of a reader than a watcher, here’s the gist of what I talked about in the video …

9 Qualities/Features of a Great Article Writing and Marketing System:

  1. How long have they been in business? – Have they been in business for more than a year? Bonus points for those that have been driving traffic for 5 or more years. Systems that are less than 6 months old are too new and unable to get you traffic.
  2. Who’s actually running or moderating the site? – Can you figure out within 10 seconds of surfing the site who actually owns or is in charge of it? Article marketing system owners that hide themselves from the public probably don’t want to be found. And most likely they won’t worry about traffic finding you either.
  3. Is the article marketing service human powered or fully automated? – A fully automated system is usually a sign that the owner doesn’t intend to police the quality of the content. There’s no pride in having your articles in a system that doesn’t care about quality.
  4. What’s their response time? – If you email them, do they respond within 24-48 hours? Did your email to them bounce back as undeliverable? If you can’t contact them, that might be a sign that they’re not in the game to help you.
  5. How many authors are listed? – The more authors they have the better. Article directories with less than 1,000 authors are still trying to get their foot in the door and probably can’t give you much traffic.
  6. Do they provide RSS feeds, email alerts, forward to a friend functions, social media integration and other strategies to increase the distribution of your articles? – Do they have thousands of members of their own double opt-in mailing lists to promote your articles? If they do, that’s great. That just means that they are trying to help you get more exposure.
  7. Are they responsible with the advertising on their site? – For example, do they have pop-ups, or exit pops? Are they shamelessly promoting random products or have the ‘punch the monkey’ ads? If they do, be careful. You want an article marketing service where your success is priority #1; not the advertisers.
  8. Do they provide article reports to help you see which articles are getting traction? – If your success is important to them, then they’ll give you tools so you can grow your skills and improve your success.
  9. Does it generate traffic back to your site or not? – The whole reason you’re writing and submitting articles in the first place is to get traffic back to your site. If you don’t get traffic from them, you’re wasting your efforts.

You make your articles available for syndication because you want to …

  • Improve your targeted web traffic …
  • Enhance your credibility …
  • Drive leads to your products …
  • Grow your email list …
  • And more!

Unfortunately, you don’t have unlimited time in your day to submit your articles to every newbie article marketing system that begs for your attention. Prioritize the best article sites that meet or exceed the above 9 criteria to help determine which ones should get your valuable attention.

Remember: It’s better to submit 100 articles to 1 top quality article marketing system, or niche site, than it is to submit 1 article to 100 directories.

If you’re serious about article writing and marketing, you owe it to yourself to check out our competition. When you’re done, we know you’ll come back to EzineArticles.com. So go do it now.

When you’re finished, leave a comment to let us know what you’ve discovered.

IMHO EzineArticles is the best article marketing directory site around… not only do they have TONS of traffic but real people who care about the content being published and do not publish everything, making sure it’s about quality and not about publishing quantity.

Now with all the Social media marketing integration, it’s easier than ever to really leverage this great resource.

Great job Chris & EzineArticles!

hmmm, can you tell I’m a fan…?

First, I like EzineArticles and use them quite often. I do use a few others, as I’m guessing most do. Although traffic is important from the site, traffic overall is important and in general link building is an important part of that.

Yes, EzineArticles sends us good, quality traffic (although not the most), just submitting your article to one directory, I would question. All links (that are nofollow) count. Some are of higher quality than others, but all are worthwhile.

So as with everything – don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.

There are a couple of sites that give us more control over our links and where we place them. I do appreciate that feature from those directories. EzineArticles use to allow 3 links of any kind and now it is 2 self-serving and 2 non self-serving.

Maybe a compromise would be quality authors get additional links. For now, not a hindrance.

Having submitted to a few other Article Marketing Sites, I find that EzineArticles is still the best, most established and professional Article Marketing Site around. Some of the other sites (no names) don’t even bother to send out email updates, news, etc., after you’ve submitted. At least with EzineArticles you always know of any new developments and opportunities, as well as receiving good advice in regular emails and communications. Keep up the good work. It’s getting better every month. Andy.

G’day Marc,
I confess! I use one other system. But EzineArticles is still my first choice. You get my stuff first. I have no intention of changing.
The more I use you blokes, the more impressed I am. And you always respond promptly and positively when I contact you with a query.
Put simply, you treat me like an author, not a name on a list.
Best Wishes

Your site looks very inviting. If we have already started in another directory and we want to start submitting to your site, how different do the articles need to be for acceptance and not get in trouble with Google? We’re interested in your 30 article challenge so may want to use some articles already submitted elsewhere.

Comment provided March 16, 2010 at 3:43 PM

You can submit those articles to us without changing anything. I cannot answer for Google, however if you own the content and your name is associated with it wherever it is published, you should not experience any problems.

Penny, thanks for your prompt reply. I have heard your site provides superior service to its clients so I was pleased to actually get a reply.

Hi Marc … and Chris-

You summed it up perfectly!

Most article sites (mine included) don’t hold a candle to EzineArticles so it’s safe to say you’ll be the King of Content for a long time. I totally agree that encouraging competition is good and you should have a healthy respect for other sites. It keeps us on our toes and forces us to embrace changes to improve quality.

If you are good writer and a successful marketer, you can use multiple sites to your advantage.
And don’t write off some of the smaller directories just yet. They can become a powerhouse when you’re not looking!

May your articles be prosperous! ©

Great comments – you are still Number 1 on the internet. Glad to see that my own site passes the test! It will never beat yours but I will keep trying.

As a passing – you don’t mention the ability to tweet or add to other social sites. I think this is important to get your articles passed around as well.

Comment provided March 16, 2010 at 4:55 PM

Actually, we do talk about social media integration – it’s point #6.

In my opinion,EzineArticles has the best auditors and authors around. You guys always give advice on how to write good quality contents and you respond to any queries faster than any article directory.
This is where I have published more articles than ever and my articles have always been published and gives me more traffic and branding.

Thank you Chris and your team

I love it, great job Marc, loved the close. BTW – I submit my articles to EzineArticles.com and have been for over 5-years, and yes, it does work.

Additionally, I get 1-2 new directory sites telling me to submit my articles to them EVERY WEEK, and over the last five-years, I can tell you, they come and the go – and I’ve heard every line to coax me to post to them. I’ve even refused only to find they’d signed me up without my permission, lifted an article or two from this site, and claimed I was an author? It’s just a bunch of BS, they are using my name and hard work to promote their new site, when I’ve never heard of them.

Quite frankly, I am not going to waste my time Marc to go surf the competition, I’ve done that before, and yes, they are underwhelming. I hope EzineArticles continues their mission, lives up to their brand promise, and continues to attract loyalists who have passion about what they are doing with their online articles.

Thanks, Lance.

I can tell you this: We (the EzineArticles Team) have every intention of continuing to live up to our brand promise and delivering on our mission to be the best article writing and marketing site on the Internet. Period. :)

One question that is annoying me is that, what is the directory which gives traffic and quality links other than EzineArticles? Obviously, None comes to my mind always.

EzineArticles is the best.

Weldone. It gives confidence like me who afraid write content about our business. Somewhere I read this. You don’t need to be Shakespeare or anything, but as long as you’ve got an in depth knowledge, passion for your topic, and a desire to share what you know, you’re well on your way to being an expert author!. Correct, is n’t it?

I appreciate the information in your blog. Being a writer I find that EzineArticles is the number 1 site for submitting articles. I also know that their are several more that can help spreading the word through the system. I suppose it depends on how far you want your article to reach out. Good luck with future articles. Have a good 4th.
