Salute To Mexican Authors
Hola… a quick salute to our (33) expert authors from Mexico as I enjoyed visiting your country over the past week for a little bit of business & a day or two of sunshine.
Over the years, I’ve been to Ciudad de Cuernavaca, Mexico City, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco, La Paz, and this trip was my first to the East side of Mexico in the Riviera Maya region.
I could have sworn I was in Miami because all of the Mexican employees replied to me in English every time I tried to engage them in Spanish dialogue.
Turns out that they were only paid $10-$20 USD per day of work and one of the main economic benefits they wanted out of their employment at the resort was to get a chance to perfect their English by interacting with English speaking guests. So much for my ongoing goal to add to my Español vocabulario!
One nice thing about the East side of Mexico is that Cingular and Nextel had 3-5 bars of service so I was able to wireless Internet and Nextel DC (Direct Connect) 2-way chat back to our team almost 2,000 miles away as if I was in the other room. Way cool!
…and of course, kudos to our team for keeping the site running smooth… they’ll be the first to tell me it runs better when I’m out of the office. :-)
Ok, back to business!
How timely to read this topic since I was just editing the chapter in my novel that was set in Mexico.
Glad to read you were able to have some fun. Mexico is one of my favorite places – both Pacific and Caribbean.
