Credible Linking DOs and DON’Ts

For a visitor, clicking on a new link is like skydiving for the first time – there’s always a little risk. Will they land safely after launching from your article, or will they break their neck on your landing page?

Don’t lose focus on your landing page and don’t lose credibility by driving traffic to a subpar site. Credible Linking is more than making sure your site is up and running.

Evaluate the quality of your landing page by considering the following:

  • Is the landing page relevant to the corresponding article’s content?
  • Is the intention of the URL and the landing page transparent?
  • How easy is the landing page and overall site navigation?

Red Flags Sent Up By Spun Articles

A while ago, I wrote a post on standing up against spun content, or what I then called “chopped-up word salad” (others went further to call it “article vomit”).

No matter what name you have for it, spun content is an ugly practice.

Spinning software tries to imitate the hard work and dedication involved in writing 100% fresh, original content by taking completed articles and replacing select words in those articles with synonyms. This lazy practice creates articles that aren’t unique and oftentimes just plain don’t make sense. Submitting spun content or promoting the act of spinning articles will result in an account suspension.

Establishing a Quality Culture in Your Article Portfolio

A common struggle among many article writers is the art of balancing the urge to pitch their product and ultimately achieving reader-driven quality.

So who will be the judge and what is reader-driven quality?

One way to understand this concept is to understand quality. Will your article meet or exceed your reader’s expectations? Of course this question is easier asked than supported but it doesn’t have to be.

Quality = Results, so if you’re not achieving results, chances are your quality meter needs to be revisited. The quality measuring stick often changes as circumstances are altered so it’s up to you to know when and why.

Overheard from an editor at EzineArticles:

I’m noticing some authors are having a hard time with the 400 word count minimum. When an article falls short of 400 words, they often just repeat their article body, summarize their main points over and over, add promo or add in filler sentences at the end of the article body just to meet the minimum.

As an editor, it’s frustrating because some of these articles have pretty good content. Then, it can be narrowed down to just one or two sentences that the author adds to the end of the body in order to meet the 400.

Adding 50 words of fluff on top of a 350-word article won’t get the job done. You never know which tip or strategy recommendation will make the difference or solve a reader’s problem. Adding just one extra tip or original thought is usually enough to boost them over the word requirement …

Ever get that feeling when you’re writing that a sentence needs just a little something extra to make it cohesive and complete? You know it needs some kind of punctuation to bring home the point, but you can’t decide between a comma, a semicolon, a colon or some other punctuation mark to get the job done.

Well, if you have, you’re not alone. It happens all the time.

To clear the air of mystery around these punctuation marks and decide how and where they fit, we put together this quick guide to putting semicolons and colons in their place.

Interestingly enough, colons and semicolons were originally introduced as a way to represent spots to add pauses in speech that were a little longer than a comma and a little shorter than a period. Now they’ve each taken on their own meaning.

Does this scenario sound familiar?

You’ve just created a great new product or service that you believe in 100%. It’s fully developed and ready to be introduced to the world. However, now you face the steep up-hill climb associated with promoting an unknown brand. Oh, and don’t forget that your target audiences is already receiving an overwhelming amount of messages and attention from your bigger, more established competitors.

With just a small fraction of the resources of those established competitors, it can be a real struggle to make a name for yourself.

Unfortunately, sometimes the end result of this scenario is that an author tries to “piggyback” on the success of other, bigger brands and capitalize on that success to bring attention to their own brand. You may have heard of this act of piggybacking referred to as a false designation of origin or a bait and switch tactic.
