Your audience wants quality content. Avoid getting lost in the details and stay on the proven path to writing success with these 7 steps.

  1. Prewriting:
    • Know your audience’s needs, wants, goals, and obstacles
    • Brainstorm solutions
    • Form an original hypothesis (a proposition made as a basis for reasoning, without any assumption of its truth)
    • Research what has been and is being said by credible sources
    • Consider what’s not being said
  2. Outline:
    • Choose a format that best suits the topic
    • List all the main points
    • Organize related ideas together
    • Create sub headings
  3. Draft:
    • Be creative
    • Lead with originality
    • Deliver quality
  4. Revise:
    • Trim 10% of your article
    • Remove redundant content
    • Review for holes in logic
  5. Proofread:
    • Spelling
    • Commonly misused words
    • Punctuation (especially apostrophes and commas)
    • Sentence structure, run-on sentences, and awkward syntax
    • Excessive parentheticals in the form of parentheses, commas, and hyphens
  6. Final Edits:
    • Ask a family member, friend, or peer to review your work
    • Read and repeat any steps as needed

However, perhaps it depends on how one defines the term ‘Article Marketing’ but I would do so to include any type of written material used to promote a given website. This could include a social media post, a blog post, webpage or an article in EzineArticles. So long as it’s well written, if it gets the name of your site out there, it’s article marketing.

Search Engine News has said that having a good writer is the “secret weapon” of SEO.

If they’re properly done, there’s nothing to dislike: they inform well and are more pleasant to read than plain text.

Infographics were used a lot by the geniuses of ancient civilizations. They were commonplace on medieval church walls and in windows, to explain bible stories. They were used in the Renaissance for scientific treatises. And every modern schoolroom wall is covered with them: commercial charts, teacher’s help and kids’ displays. It’s a fair argument that the ‘writing out’ below it of the infographic above is itself graphical, because it uses subheads, numbering and bullet points to reorganize the material from plain text.

The key thing about correctly-prepared infographics, though, is that they ADD TO, rather than confuse, the plain text meaning. This article is great without the infographic, and would still be great if the explanation below was in plain, unnumbered paragraphs. But with it, the layout is reorganized to improve the emphases of each section and make the flow of ideas clearer. If it doesn’t do this, then someone has failed – and I see far, far too many such failures. As ‘info’ is the key to it all, obscuring the legibility of the text, making the flow any less than totally obvious, and altering the author’s emphases are all bad practice.

Commercial infographics are usually produced by a ‘professional’ graphic designer – who will not usually be a writer, neither an educator. It’s all to common for these ‘arty types’ to have little grasp of what the author wants and to go for prettiness at the expense of clarity; such lower class illustrators will not be much interested in liaison with the author, as they’ll see their jobs as ‘creating art’ rather than providing information. It’s nice to see that whoever does EzineArticles’ infographics is a long way more skilled than these people! (Side-note: why aren’t these graphics signed?)

In bad infographics, expect to see hard to read typefaces (and often far too many of them), too small or large a print size, eye-watering colour combinations, and big pictures (called ‘graphics’, whatever they are) which are almost irrelevant to the topic. You’ve probably met all of this!

So if you use infographics yourself, keep all these points in mind, and use this article as an example of good practice.
