Web Traffic: Long-Term Visitors vs. Cold Visitors

Generating The Right Kind Of Traffic

Among all the things you do for your online business, generating traffic for your website should be at the top of your list. It’s easy to feel good about receiving any website traffic, but unless your website traffic is “Pre-Qualified”, you won’t have many engaged visitors.

Check out today’s graphic and imagine the drivers in the Speed Pass lane represent pre-qualified traffic. The drivers who don’t have a Speed Pass represent cold traffic.

The pre-qualified traffic already knows and trusts you because they’ve read your articles and have a relationship with you. The cold traffic, on the other hand, knows nothing about you. It isn’t hard to predict which group of visitors you’ll be more likely to convert into a steady stream of long-term customers.

Rev up your article writing engines and get into the Speed Pass lane with these tips!

Generating Pre-Qualified Traffic: 5 Hot Tips

1. Commit To Writing

One of the largest mistakes some article writers make is not writing enough articles to make an impact. Make today the day you put together a plan to write 100 articles. It takes some work on your part to write 100 articles, but once you get there, your reward of pre-qualified traffic will be well worth the effort.

2. Let Your Personality Shine

You may feel as though the competition in your niche is too fierce to gain a following, but you have the ability to set yourself apart from everyone else. Your unique viewpoints, thoughts and style will help you distinguish yourself and gain the readers you’re after.

3. Use Your Active Voice And Speak To Your Readers

Avoid using “me” and “I” in your articles, unless you’re telling a story and it’s absolutely necessary. Your readers will appreciate the fact you’re talking to them, not at them. Make your articles conversational and use your active voice. In doing so, your articles will be more engaging to read. For example: “The golf clubs were purchased by Joe.” (Passive) vs. “Joe purchased the golf clubs.” (Active)

4. Be Creative

A well-written, engaging opening paragraph will compel people to stay and hear what you have to say. To draw on an analogy, a fisherman has to set the hook before he/she reels the fish in. Think of your opening paragraph as setting the hook. Use a relevant quote, joke or tip in your opening paragraph to grab the attention of your readers. Choose something that matches your personality and will help to separate your articles from the others.

5. Use A Top-Notch Title

You may have just written the best article in world, but if your title lacks strategically placed keywords, search engines won’t be serving it to would-be readers. When you’re done writing your article, go back and spend at least 5 minutes on your title. Look up some keywords that you can use in your title to help it gain the visibility it needs to succeed. Once you’ve selected a few choice keywords, re-write your title making sure it’s balanced for readability and searchability.

Following these tips will help you bring a steady flow of pre-qualified traffic back to your website with the opportunity to turn them into long-term customers.

Rob, I like all of your points here, and I’d like to add that sometimes a little philosophy or a case study, or story goes a long way too, and when you tie that in with what you’ve mentioned, I’d say your articles will move along fast enough not only for speed pass but for private space flight and escape velocity for your readers/new customers!

Thanks Lance.

I agree that a case study or a story to back up the points made is a great way to bring an article together.

I will keep your advice in mind the next time around. :)

It’s useful to have a self-editing checklist on hand to find common mistakes or errors and then check them off your list.

Yes, content on my site should be updated and changed more frequently. I don’t run ads on my site, would be interested in running one on yours though. Great content for the midnight writer.
