We’re launching this video series to give you a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the people that make the EzineArticles system successful. In the upcoming weeks and months, you’ll meet several different members of our team, learn more about their role at EzineArticles, hear stories about what it’s like to work here, gain insider tips and maybe even get a peek into their personal lives. In the process, you’ll discover a little bit more about who we are as a company, a website, a team and a family.
In this first video, Vanessa, a senior member of the EzineArticles Support Team, talks about her pets, her role at EzineArticles and her thoughts for building a successful article writing and marketing experience.
Today’s Expert Author Case Study introduces us to Expert Author Jim Hofman, owner of WineTrailsUSA.com and PresidentialTravelUSA.com.
As an Expert Author, Jim shares knowledge gained through his many traveling experiences. He also conducts research to stay informed and offer new destination ideas to his readers. Article writing and marketing is Jim’s primary method of promoting his websites for three reasons:
It’s a powerful link building opportunity.
It generates more traffic and exposure to his content.
It builds the reputation of his websites.
Deciding what to write about is easy for Jim. He understands the typical dilemmas faced by travelers, and he uses his vast experience to find solutions to those dilemmas. These solutions become article ideas.
Jim understands the real value of his knowledge. Instead of spending extra hours on perfecting each article, he thinks about the value of the information he’s providing. As a result, he’s more interested in getting the article completed than making each one perfect. As part of our ongoing Expert Author Case Study project, we asked Paul to share his thoughts on article writing and marketing.
What sets you apart from other Expert Authors?
I think I have a lot in common with other Expert Authors. What I’ve seen is a dedicated, hardworking group that is passionate about their areas of expertise. I like to think I’m defined that way, too.
Jumpstart your writing by questioning the way things are and the way they ought to be with this article template.
We’re all products of our own life experiences. Based on choices we make, we lead only one life and experience it in a certain way. Those choices have led us to today. But what if we could accurately predict how events or choices will shape our future? We’d be able to see the answers to personal questions like: “What if you went back to college to get that degree you promised yourself you’d finish?” We’d also be able to think about events that impact all of humanity like: “What if the leaders of every country came together and agreed to world peace?”
Well, we can’t predict the answers to these questions with complete certainty, but we can think about the possible consequences of these imagined events. This article template is one way to embrace the “What If” thought experiments in life and turn them into articles.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing a Great “What If?” Article
Create an Imagined Event – Think of an event that would have an impact on the future. This could be a personal life event or an event that has a broad impact on society. The type of event will be different based on your niche. Here’s where you need to get creative. The more imaginative, the better.
Write a Revealing Title – Identify the event, but leave it open to interpretation. This will pull readers in have them looking for answers. Include the entire “What If” in the title if it can be communicated concisely.
Add a Compelling Introduction – Tell the story of how the scenario happens. Present the conditions of the event and anything leading up to it.
List Ways Life Would Change – List ways life would be different because of the event. This includes the event itself and things that happen in the future. This might be the most challenging part of the thought experiment, but if the idea comes from a natural vision, it’ll be really valuable.
Say Why it Matters – Outline the meaning of the event. Discuss whether the event is probable and how close it is to reality.
Encourage Readers to Ask Their Own “What Ifs” – Recap the scenario. Encourage more discussion by asking readers for their own “What Ifs.”
So are you ready to think about the future? Test your mind and the next time you think “What if X happened right now?” write that thought down and add it to your next high-quality article set. Also, leave a comment to share your train of thought.
The eleventh edition in a series of posts that highlight one Expert Author who has achieved success by doing just one thing exceptionally well.
When Pawel Kalkus isn’t studying for his university degree, he finds time to share his wealth of knowledge by writing articles for EzineArticles. In early 2009, he started writing articles to share professional dog training advice he’d learned over the years. As an Expert Author, his current goal is to summarize all of the most useful bits of knowledge he has gained through trial and error.
During his most recent article writing and marketing campaign, he wrote and submitted over 100 articles in just 1 month’s time!
Secret to Success
According to Pawel, the secret to his success as an EzineArticles Expert Author is his ability to establish and follow through on a writing plan. He says, “I make my own 30-day calendar every month and write down how many articles I can manage to do each day.” Then, at the end of each day, he goes back to his calendar and checks on his progress. What sets him apart from other authors is that he implements his plan patiently. Early on he discovered that sometimes things get in the way of the plan. Sometimes an article idea doesn’t pan out the way he intended or external circumstances get in the way of him sticking to his plan. By aiming high at first and staying flexible, he doesn’t get discouraged if a writing session turns out differently than he expected.
Episode 6 of the “2 Minute Approval Tips” video series.
This series is designed to help get your articles approved on the first submission. We’ve looked at past submission records to find the most common reasons why articles aren’t approved on the initial try. Since we know your time is precious, we’ve compressed this information into individual 2-minute videos.
Readers come to your quality articles looking for expert advice. If they find what they’re looking for in the article, they’ll look to the Resource Box to discover more about you. A Resource Box that appears long by word or line count will make the entire submission look spammy. Instead, the Resource Box should provide just enough information to help your readers discover who you are, yet leave them wanting more.
In this “2 Minute Approval Tips” episode, I’ll share the dangers of submitting a Resource Box that’s too big for an article and some steps you can take to avoid having articles rejected because of a bloated Resource Box.
THE TROUBLE WITH PROMOTIONAL CONTENT IN ARTICLES By: Penny, EzineArticles Managing Editor
Your readers want expert advice, not a sales pitch. They get a feel for the value of the content you share through what you write. Their positive experiences of your content build your credibility; their negative experiences demolish it. If credibility is established and built, they may trust you enough to surf to your site.
Remember that your article body shouldn’t sound like an infomercial for your product. If your article writing and marketing campaign was launched to build awareness for a specific product, you’ll be able to start converting readers into customers through the Resource Box. The trouble with promotional content in articles is that it tries to convert readers into customers before establishing any credibility.
Here are some “DO’s” and “DON’Ts” to build a reputation on informative content:
With these tips, gain laser-like accuracy when writing articles for your target audience.
Effective writing starts with knowing your audience and communicating to them in their language. When your audience gets the sense that they are being spoken to directly, they’ll understand the message better and be more likely to consider your advice. In other words, they’ll get the sense that your article was targeted at them with laser-like accuracy.
When you understand who your readers are, you come closer to connecting with them through the written word. With this connection comes trust and credibility that’ll have the audience continually coming back to you for more.
Here are 3 tips for writing laser-targeted articles for your audience.
Consider Knowledge Level
Know the knowledge level of your audience. This level dictates the amount of industry lingo and detailed information allowable in an article. Keep in mind that the information included in each article will make it uniquely suitable for a specific audience. Including more advanced information might mean the average reader will have a hard time understanding the content. However, the industry experts in your niche may find a lot of value in this content. If you write more general content, the industry experts will be bored, but the general public will be more likely to understand the content. To take advantage of this fact, write for your ideal audience.
Writing original content is a whole lot easier when you use the environment to inspire new ideas.
The best way to become a true expert in any field is to experience the activity first-hand and embrace its natural environment. This concept applies to article writing and marketing just as much as it does to any other activity.
Take advantage of those moments you spend experiencing your niche. In those moments, be inquisitive and ask questions. Bring a childlike curiosity and enthusiasm for discovery into these experiences and write down any questions you have. Each question you ask can be answered by one or more new article titles. Once you come up with the new titles, you’ll have concepts for your next set of original articles.
In this video, discover the power of surrounding yourself with your niche for inspiration. Each Expert Author in the video spends time in their niche environment and asks questions about the details they observe. They are solidifying their expertise in their niche and getting new article ideas!
These underutilized resources are excellent for determining market position and sparking creativity.
In past Blog posts we’ve talked about how getting into the article writing “Zone” and marketing process takes effort, but once you get there, each article takes less work as your thoughts roll out onto the page (or screen) in front of you. However, you can only get as much out of this frame of mind as you put into it. To really take advantage of “The Zone,” spend some time mining the mountains of data we make available through different EzineArticles tools. Remember that insight mining sessions can be the perfect way to uncover gems of information like popular topics in your niche, what the competition is doing and the nature of your market.
If you have this data at hand when sitting down to write, finding “The Zone” won’t be nearly as difficult, and as a result, you’ll be able to invest your time more efficiently. Here’s a list of little-known data mining tools that just might help you dig deeper for your next set of high-quality, original articles:

What sets you apart from other Expert Authors?
Because I am passionate about many areas, I write about a diversity of unrelated topics. This range includes professional development used in the corporate world such as “How to be a Successful and Empathetic Negotiator” and “Writing Business Reports that Everyone Will Want to Read.” I also write for the personal development market on skills to live an empowered, happy and fulfilling life. Another area I am passionate about is supplying parents with drug-free alternatives for raising a happy, well-adjusted child who has either ADHD symptoms or has been diagnosed with ADHD. Equally, I’m fascinated by how the brain functions and how we can look after it to serve us optimally into our centenary years. In addition, I integrate several modalities such as self-hypnosis, NLP [Neuro-Linguistic Programming], TFT [Thought Field Therapy] and hand reading in my arsenal to help people get over challenges in life.
What’s your secret to article writing and marketing success?
Have your reader in mind when you write an article. Ask yourself, “How will she or he benefit from what I have written? Will the article make a lasting impression?” That is the only way it can really be effective. Write from the heart. Write as though the person was sitting in front of you and you are having a conversation with each other. Just write what you are really passionate about and what can make a difference.
