Julie-Ann Amos is a UK-based HR and management consultant. She has more than 12 books in print in over 20 countries on business, management and personal development subjects. She has written for magazines, newspapers, websites and for a variety of clients. In addition, she’s the author of the UK’s Institute of Management standard text and runs Exquisite Writing.
Yet, Julie-Ann isn’t your ordinary Expert Author. As a matter of fact, by her own admission, her articles can occasionally be downright wacky. “We’re all individuals and take varied approaches to article marketing,” she says. “I like to write about a wide variety of topics, from the wacky (pubic hair styling or sex in space) to the conventional (investment advice and management topics). You’ll find quite an array of different topics in my EzineArticles feed!”
One glance at her article titles will give you an idea of her offbeat choice in topics. “I try to think about what people would find interesting,” she says. “If no one wants to read the articles, they’re not going to do much for me or the readers. I do a bit of keyword research (to help people find the articles), topic research, and then try to help people understand something new or solve a problem. I also write about what takes my fancy at a given time – e.g. sex in space or space tourism. Let’s just say I have an eclectic train of thought.”
What’s NOT wacky, however, is her smart approach to article marketing. She has definite opinions and offers this advice on becoming a successful Expert Author. “Persistence is critical,” she says, “You need to consolidate effort and avoid the typical buttery or shotgun approach; flitting from site to site posting stuff randomly around the web. If you only post the occasional article, you probably won’t see many benefits. Posting regularly is one way to get real results. Also, look at your reports and build on the data. The reports provide a lot of helpful information that can make picking topics and new approaches very evident.”
Staying motivated is a challenge, even for slightly offbeat authors like Julie-Ann. “It’s not always easy to do,” she says, “but when you see results it’s quite motivating. Every time I take the time to do article marketing, I see results. I now article market for all my own sites, plus on a paid basis for my clients. I regularly evaluate the marketing results of my business using the reporting [EzineArticles] provides, as well as checking the reporting for my websites. All this information helps me create a monthly or quarterly marketing plan.”
So where does article marketing fit into her overall marketing scheme? Julie-Ann tells us, “Article marketing is essential in my line of business [since] I own and operate a copywriting agency and am a content developer as well. It helps me establish myself as a professional, helps me bring readers to my websites and helps me with traffic. It’s something I see myself continually doing.
Julie-Ann has this laundry list of advice for new Expert Authors:
- Read analytic reports
- Write helpful articles
- Don’t be afraid to write about something unique
- Add Twitter to your Ezinearticles Account – it’ll automatically notify your audience of new articles as they are published
- Use social bookmarking tools to help get your articles to go viral
- Don’t forget to add your article widget to the sidebar of your blog – it’ll help you get traffic to your articles and help you make your blog look a little hotter
Julie-Ann’s topics may be a bit unconventional, but her advice is spot-on! Put some (or all) of it to good use today when writing your next set of high-quality, original articles.
