From My Desk to Yours – 9th Edition

Are you earning the respect of your readers?

Think about it – there is an almost infinite number of articles on the web – so what should you focus on in order to compete with this massive amount of knowledge? In a nutshell: Earn the respect of your readers.

Regardless of whether you write about Multi-Level Marketing or selecting the best toaster for the money, your primary objective should be to educate and enhance the reader’s knowledge by using your particular expertise on a specific subject. When you make this your primary goal when submitting articles, you will undoubtedly earn the respect of your targeted reader. You’ll provide them with a great user experience and leave them with a long-lasting positive impression that will no doubt bring them back for more.

Surprisingly, many authors don’t realize this simple truth. They submit articles without considering the reader first, resulting in keyword-stuffed derivative content that is not only hard to read but also holds no value (aside from SEO purposes) for the reader.

We firmly believe that the reader’s experience should come first and foremost in your mind anytime you write an article. So we’ve come up with (3) tips that will help steer you to making reader-centric decisions when writing your articles. Understanding these concepts will bring you one step closer to earning the respect of your reader.

1. Inform the Reader (It’s not called “Informative Content” for nothing!)

    Let’s say you are writing an article about pizza. It is your duty as the author to actually inform the reader about pizza. You do not want to write 400+ words of content that essentially says, “Pizza is good. Many people like pizza. Some toppings people like on pizza are pepperoni, olives, sausage, anchovies, etc.” In other words, don’t provide basic knowledge on your subject that any 5 year-old could spit out just to promote your site. You need to challenge your reader. Prove your expertise on the subject by keeping them engaged with entertaining and thought-provoking content related to the subject – content that few people know.

Add EzineArticles Videos to YOUR Site

If your niche has anything to do with Internet Marketing, our videos could be just the ticket for keeping your website visitors around longer while leveraging our Article Writing & Marketing free video training library!

Back in August of 2009, we showed you how to easily add EzineArticles videos (or any other videos for that matter) to your website or blog using YouTube.com’s embed code. Since then, YouTube has revised the process for creating the HTML code to provide more flexibility and a better user experience – so we figured it was time to revisit this topic.

We’ve also upgraded our YouTube Channel recently to be more eye-appealing and user friendly. If you haven’t seen it lately, stop by and take a look around.

(5) Easy Steps to Embedding an EzineArticles Video:

  1. Go to the EzineArticles YouTube Channel and pick out the video you’d like to add to your site. You’ll see a complete list of available videos on the right-hand side of our channel view. Click on the one you want to embed and it will begin playing immediately in the main viewer.
  2. Click on the title of the video you selected beneath the main viewer – this will take you to the main page for that particular video.
  3. Click in the field to the right of the video window labeled “Embed” – this will open a menu of options for customizing the video to suit your needs.
  4. Right click within the field labeled “Embed” and select “Copy” from the drop down menu. The code for the video “Discover the Value of EzineArticles.com” looks like this:

So, how is the quality of your landing page?

When it comes to designing your website, your number one concern should be user experience. You want users to come to your site and be drawn in by what they see. Knowing this, one of the most important aspects of the design of your site should be the landing page. A successful landing page not only keeps visitors at your site, it encourages them to sign up for your promotion or to purchase your product (also known as creating a conversion).

Creating a High-Quality Landing Page:

  • Go to the Right Place – Make sure that your landing page lands directly on the headline or part of the page that you intend it to. There’s nothing more annoying than clicking on a link and having to scroll all over the place trying to find the information you want.
  • Convince the Visitor to Stay – People, in general, have very short attention spans. If not provided with sufficient content such as a form to fill out, some product to consider purchasing, or information for them to read immediately at your landing page, you can almost guarantee they’ll be hitting the “Back” button and leaving your site. Getting users to interact with the website will make them feel connected and involved, thus potentially leading to more conversions.

RBL Improved – EzineArticles Adopts Google Safe Browsing

New System Promises Fewer “False Positives”

Back in November, we implemented a system to distinguish between “safe links” (those that link to a reputable site) and “malicious links” (those found to be potentially harmful or that have been reported for spamming/phishing). If a link was identified to be on a Real-Time Block List (RBL), that link would not be published on our platform.

In an effort to continuously improve the EzineArticles system, we’ve decided to “lighten up” on checking links for malicious activity. This does not mean we’ve lowered our standards. On the contrary, we’ve actually improved the system by selecting a better source for determining if a link is “safe” or “malicious”.

Previously we used a combination of sources which we believed were accurate and trustworthy. Over the past several months, however, we have seen an unacceptable number of “false-positives” where safe links were being misidentified as malicious. This forced us to take a hard look at the effectiveness of that RBL system.

As a result, and after careful consideration, we have decided to switch to the Google Safe Browsing system to verify all URLs submitted to EzineArticles. This change has already been implemented.
