Articles By Expert Name Domains

Interesting little microcosm of a trend happening here by some of our members:

Essentially they have made it easier to mention or give out their EzineArticles expert author URL in a domain name format that is easier to say, spell or be remembered when the ‘elevator pitch’ moment happens.

Jeff Herring gets the credit for coming up with this idea.

If you’ve got one to add to the above list, add a blog comment and give your articlesbyyourname a plug. What do you think? Crazy idea or Smart?

Dan Goodwin writes:

Given the ease and low cost of buying and hosting a domain and setting up a redirect, I think it’s a great idea.

You could take it a step further if you had different niches, for example:

and so on…

Anything that makes it easier for people to remember your URLs can only be a good thing.

I like Dan`s comment, where he underlines the keyword usage with the name. This combination is more search engine friendly plus more like a brand.

…I liked the idea.

Dan’s idea is brilliant – after Jeff’s, of course. I will get ebookarticlesbyconnie and Jeff could get articlearticlesbyjeff.

Edward Weiss writes:

It sounds like a good idea, but it may not be as practical and hard working as it appears.

After all, how many people “hand out” or mention their URL’s to others. On the other hand, you could use something like this for a hyperlink and then direct them to this site.

Edward – you would be surprised at how many people ask me where they can see what I have written. The last time I was asked that question I was on a cross-country flight. By the time we had landed I had a contract worth more than 25K. This was because they had seen my articles and knew I could do the project they had in mind. rolls off my tongue and right into my bank account!

I agree that is a great idea. At least Alex Mandossian and Jeff Herring use teleseminars extensively. That may be very useful to show their articles.

Tip: Either use the cPanel’s redirection or put

Redirect 301 / Name]

in .htaccess in the root directory of the domain. Substitute with 302 if you don’t want to use permanent redirection.

Ok…so here’s a question, I love the URL, but why is it coming to EzineArticles? Why not just the site and then listing all your articles on this new domain you’ve just purchased, where you can also have links to your other sites etc? Just wondering why everyone is pointing these new domains to Chris? And of course Chris I mean no disrespect.

Ok..I just bought I really do believe the concept is BRILLIANT.

Dan Goodwin writes:

Audrey to answer your question on comment no20, I think the simple answer is because it’s quick and easy!

Setting up a website for your articles is easy enough but if you’re publishing a high volume you’ll spend more time maintaining and updating your article site than producing new articles.

I remember listening to a teleseminar with Jeff Herring ages ago where someone asked how he backed up or archived his articles once he’d published them on EzineArticles. He said he didn’t – EzineArticles WAS his archive.

As long as your articles here have good resource boxes back to your own website(s), why not direct people here where they’re all convenient organised?

Audrey writes:

Thanks Dan. As I said, I bought the domain yesterday.

What I really should do is take a new picture, one a bit more professional looking, rewrite my bio as it’s quite old and my first attempt and then redirect the domain here.

I’m pretty excited. I wrote about a dozen new articles yesterday. I submitted a few that were proofed already. I hope to proof the rest today and submit them today or tomorrow. Right now I only have a few hundred articles. I see some of you have in the thousands and yes that would take forever to index on your own site. Here on Chris already allows the searcher to sort by date, by category etc.

Thanks again.

Comment provided June 30, 2008 at 9:47 PM

Congratulations, Patti. Forward and mask the domain to your expert bio page here on EzineArticles. Take a look at to see how it works. I have found this to be invaluable to my online business.

Comment provided June 30, 2008 at 11:42 PM

Your web host can help you.

Tell them you want to 301 permanent redirect/rewrite the domain to:

Some domain registrars offer URL rewriting service for a small fee.

Domain forwarding, URL rewriting, or whatever you want to call it is usually a very inexpensive server process… ie: They create the forwarding rule and forget about it. It’s largely a DNS (Domain Name Service) function.

If all this sounds like tech-speak… contact your domain or web host to find out more.

Comment provided June 30, 2008 at 11:58 PM

My domain host keeps telling me that is an invalid redirection :(

Patti, change it to expert_bio so it goes directly to your expert bio page with your picture and your stats. Also, mask the domain so it shows Articles by Patti on the title line.

Thanks Connie. I changed my redirect to my bio page but the domain masking didn’t put Articles by Patti on the title line, even though that is what I entered when I set up the masking. I noticed that yours doesn’t either. Did you also use domain masking?

I jumped on this right away when Jeff suggested it for our Mentor group.

Thanks for the profile ranking, Chris. That’s a terrific feature, too.

Here’s that newbie butting in again. I’ve been using that technique to get .com domains that I really wanted. Variations to use where appropriate are ‘with’ and ‘with grace,’ meaning doing it gracefully, not the name Grace. A little judgment is required; in some cases you just don’t want the same as someone else has, and I wouldn’t try it well well-known brands unless I wanted to go to court.
