Golden Rules Article TemplateRate This Post:
Here’s how the Golden Rules of X article template works:
Broad vs. Narrow focus: You can include the golden rules of various aspects of your niche including narrow topics or sub-topics rather than only a broadly-focused set of golden rules. Example: I might write an article on the “7 Golden Rules of Article Writing & Marketing” — I’d follow that up with an article on the “10 Article Title Golden Rules To Profit By,” “4 Golden Rules of Writing Resource Boxes That Sell,” or “19 Golden Rules of How To Pick Article Topic Choices.” Makes sense?

Chris, It’s a great article template! Would you start the article titles like your examples though? ie all beginning “7 Golden Rules Of…”? As I understood it, search engines gives more importance and weight to the first 3 or 4 words in an article title, so in the examples shown the main keywords would appear to be “golden rules” and not “Article Writing” or “Article Marketing” or whatever your topic for that article is? What are your thoughts/ experiences around that? The extra tip on narrowing focus is great too, breaking a niche down further and further to generate more article ideas and titles. Dan, Do both: Write articles that include numbers at the start and write ones with the keywords at the start. Do both, test both, track the results and make your own determination. Years ago it was black and white which direction tested better. Now, it’s much more gray and worthy of individual testing. [Reply] Comment provided May 13, 2008 at 11:44 AM

Thanks Chris, That’s great advice for any aspect of article marketing – try different approaches, track the results and see what works best for your niche and your readers. Just looking at my articles, I write mostly in the “Creativity” sub-category, and my article with the most views is called: “Give yourself a Cuddle! – Self Care Techniques for the Creative”. Not exactly keyword rich! Often I think the overall catchiness or hook of the title is more important than it being technical optimised for the search engines. I’m going to experiment more in my forthcoming articles! Thanks, Dan [Reply] Comment provided May 13, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Your template is brilliant, Chris! I agree with Bridget in combining keywords with Golden Rules in the title, e.g., Essential Oils – 7 Golden Rules of … Having the keywords first satisfies the search engines and having “Golden Rules” really draws in the human element. I’ll be eagerly awaiting your next templates! Kathryn Caywood [Reply] Comment provided June 9, 2008 at 2:47 PM

I agree with Dan Goodwin that catchy titiles with a hook work really well; just look at the magazine stand and see the headlines for CQ or Cosmo. They’re the masters of getting your attention. And I would incorporate using the key words first, “legal help…7 golden rules to protect your rigths” to optimze the search. Time for testing and see what shakes out. -Tom Cosgrove [Reply] Comment provided May 13, 2009 at 9:00 AM
