EzineArticles is 8 Years Old TodayRate This Post:
On a chilly November 19th in 1999 EzineArticles.com was born. Today marks our 8th birthday. :-) Frankly, today snuck up on us and we’ve been so busy behind-the-scenes that we didn’t plan any big party or promotion to celebrate this milestone. I wish we could recognize our 7 or 8 year members but the reality is that our website was completely re-designed and re-launched in August of 2004 and we didn’t have members till October of 2004. So for fun, let’s recognize our first member to sign up: Cathy Stucker, yes, the Idea Lady. Ironically, Cathy is one of the less than 5 experts that I’ve worked with to help with new product creation and I’ll be doing a free teleclass with Cathy the evening of November 27th. Topic? Giving away many secrets included in her Cash Content Formula training guide… more about that another day. After Cathy, we’ve had 119,791 membership sign up requests (as of a minute ago) and over 74,500+ members who’ve had their articles accepted…ok, so I guess we’re pretty picky on the quality thing. :-) Anyway, for more birthday fun trivia: Alexandria K. Brown, The EzineQueen was our first article accepted in August of 2004: 11 Things You MUST Know Before Hiring a Copywriter! In summary, Happy 8th Birthday to all stakeholders in the EzineArticles Team, Members, Family and Friends!

Having submitted some 300 articles over these past months, this has been a wonderful opportunity to write about what is so vitally important to me. [Reply] Comment provided November 19, 2007 at 4:27 PM

Happy B-day EzineArticles ! But you know, the real birth of a business is the idea itself. Were you thinking about something like EzineArticles before or did you start the business as soon as the idea came? I know from personal experience that the original idea morphs into something different (usually) over time as well. [Reply] Comment provided November 19, 2007 at 6:37 PM

Edward, EzineArticles was just one of many sites that my team and I acquired between 1999-2001. We had raised VC funding November of ‘99 and went on a buying spree of websites that had one thing in common: They all provided value for email newsletter publishers and/or responsible (meaning not spammers) email marketers. Unfortunately that business failed when the dot com bubble bursted and I painfully bought out our minority VC partner (when I didn’t have to and could have run away as we both shared the failure)… so that I could be left with a collection of websites that were worth NOTHING… The genesis of EzineArticles as it is today, really happened in 2003 out of a problem that no one in the market had solved the way we thought it should be solved: The CMS. Like many firms, we had evolved from Microsoft Frontpage to Dreamweaver and then to raw HTML code, but there was a bigger problem: We had to move from a non-database website to a database driven website. Server Side Includes (SSI) would only help our cause so much… and it was in 2003 that we went looking for a CMS platform to move to. Turned out NOTHING met our needs good enough… and PHP was picking up speed in overall adoption (formerly, PERL was the code of the web gods)…and MySQL as a database was also gaining strong adoption. Even though EzineArticles didn’t re-launch till August 4th of 2004…it was 2003 that the CMS (Content Management System) platform was conceived. [Reply] Comment provided November 20, 2007 at 8:55 AM

The full day and year of your domain start-up breaks down to the single four number which is a powerful number. It represents: individualism, originality, inventiveness and tolerance. 19 is one of the most powerful compound numbers. Both of my children were born on the 19th. It’s one of my favourites for starting new projects or taking on difficult things. “‘The Prince of Heaven’…. Happy Belated Birthday, EzineArticles Team! Continue having fun whilst providing unparalleled service. Angela [Reply] Comment provided November 21, 2007 at 8:04 AM
