Just an observation but I think authors could be getting a lot more comments, articles sent via email, etc.. if the layout changed.

I’m not being critical here. I love EzineArticles but for some reason readers seem to miss the links where they can leave comments.

Perhaps give the reader a quick comment box that leads to a 2nd authentication step so that they are less intimidated by the process to comment?

Perhaps a notice above a blue outline box like this: Leave questions or comments: author will respond.

The author submitting article says Yes or No to making responses to comments.

My Consciousness Forum has been going, commenting on people’s dreams, since 1999. It works best when I comment back right away. Others sometimes comment on each other.
