Social Media Optimization

Three new categories were added to help cover the exploding Social Media trend:

  1. Internet & Online Businesses: Social-Networking
  2. Internet & Online Businesses: Social-Bookmarking
  3. Internet & Online Businesses: Social-Media

Social Networking is fueled by sites such as MySpace, LinkedIN, Ryze and savvy web 2.0 netpreneurs that are helping their own web audience discover new ways to network with each other online.

Social Bookmarking or human filtered search as some call it, is about bringing together large groups of people online to share bookmarks or links of interest for like minded people to find. An example might be Del.icio.us, Last.fm, Furl.net, Technorati or Stumbleupon.

Social Media or SMO (Social Media Optimization) as it’s known in some circles is really about the strategies to setup social media components into your website, communication or online marketing campaign strategy toolbox. Think Blogs, Tags, Comment systems and all of the underlying technology that supports SMO.

If you’re an expert in any one of these exciting new areas, here’s your first call for article submissions on Social Media topics.

My favorite social bookmarking site is Blinklist. They have a better interface than delicious, and certain advanced features that delicious lacks, such as the ability to generate an RSS feed from a combination of tags. It’s a shame blinklist does not seem to be as well-known or as widely-used as delicious.

Social Media Optimization is the methodization of social media activity with the intent of attracting unique visitors to website content. SMO is one of two online methods of website optimization; the other method is search engine optimization or SEO.
According to search engine expert Danny Sullivan, the term “social media optimization” was first used and described by Rohit Bhargava.

I’ll add Day-Trading to our new category candidates list… with the intent to attract articles on day trading theories, strategies and analysis on the fundamentals/technicals of active trading.

I do know for certain we won’t accept articles that promote specific stocks / securities… but I assume you wanted to share day trading strategies and ideas.

The main category should be INVEST, then STOCKS, then DAY TRADING.

Now I’m sure you can see an enormous potential for categories/business – like: INVEST/REAL ESTATE, STOCKS/BROKERS and so on.

In answer to your concern about promoting stocks, DayTradersWin.com is a learning not a promotional program.

i’ve just started breaking into social sites and am not an expert by any means however i do have some experience so i can make a somewhat educated comparison of the drift of things. I have a website- it’s sitting on the web but it’s not what i would call a highly interactive page. Interactive meaning people can write into my page and leave text messages and responses. However if i blog of course people can leave responses and look over my blog and may want to keep coming back because the possibility of people responding to their comment is just as likely. Where i am lacking is experience in the formats of different Social sites such as the difference between my space and wikipedia – or facebook compared to furl, along with all the many different social sites like utube or yahoo video – there are different mediums of social sites but for the most part i’d say they all share something in common – social interaction. The other commonality is that video is now becoming popular / since you can put a video on your blog its a commonality between google video or yahoo video/ utube etc and your blog- they are all have video. No absolutes here it seems but all are a resource with what seems a totally different feel than just your typical highly graphicized web page. is graphicized a word ?? (-:
that’s about where i see things at this point. Now it’s all about putting it to work.

I don’t believe there will be a next Google, though we’re probably saying the same thing. The next logical step in search engine development will be nichefication, or specialization. Yes, the Web is about to become more fragmented. In fact, it’s already happening.

Local and specialized directories will crawl the Web instead of relying solely upon site submissions:

Podcast directories will develop crawlers that look specifically for podcasts and rank them (just like Google does);

E-zines, blogs, etc. will all be cataloged and ranked by directories that migrate into search engines (just like Yahoo! did) – this is practically what Technorati and Digg are already doing through user-generated tags;

There will still be directories (DMOZ is still around, aren’t they?) but they will largely be used by the niche search engines to classify and verify their rankings;

Hold on, the Web is about to get better and more fragmented at the same time.

Allen,

I agree that the web is about to get more specialized. We’re already seeing it today with search results that are tailored to the user based on their search history.

The great thing about all of this personalization and more advanced database work is that the functional ‘utility’ of the web is increasing so we can all get more of what we want, faster and with less time wasted sifting through spam and unintended search results.

Personalized search is a dream come true. It can only get better. But the downside will be the ability of each webmaster to reach their target through organic SEO. This is getting to be more of a challenge every day.

However, the opportunities will increase for further SEO specialization and the need for SEO experts to assist webmasters in getting ranked at the right niche websites properly – and to be found by the right targeted customers. Here’s the disclaimer: Never trust an SEO “guru” who claims to have the latest trick. In the end, it all boils down to three things (and I believe it always will): Content, Links, Saturation.

Yes, it’s in your best interest to learn how to do your own advertising yourself compare to paying “experts” to do it for you. Once you stop paying for such service, it’s like starting from scratch again
