Mass Traffic But No Sales?

Katie writes me, “By the way, I wanted to tell you that when I write an article for your site, almost immediately I see an increase in traffic to my site. It is fascinating to see where my articles are apparently picked up!

Unfortunately, the increased traffic has not led to increased business for me, in terms of the e-books and services I sell. Any ideas on how to improve that?”

At first I was going to say that the obvious problem is that Katie only has (6) articles listed with us. That’s like advertising your business 6 times not including syndication love. Yes, Katie needs to write 60-600 more articles to make an impact in today’s competitive Internet climate, but the real problem in this case is her website process flow.

Today’s author spotlight is EzineArticles expert author, Adam Urbanski. He’s a marketing guy and President of “Marketing Mentors Inc.” — a training program that helps entrepreneurs to attract more sales and grow their business.

I like his creative use of his image on his website for his subscription box that is located on the upper right corner.

What earned him the Author Spotlight today was for doing the basics. Sometimes in life, just doing the basics is enough to succeed because the greater majority of our authors fail to take just a few more minutes to get the basics done…such as uploading an author picture to their profile.

Adam’s word count is a bit higher than we’d normally shoot for, but we love original content any day! His articles are clearly written from genuine expertise with an intent to educate, share knowledge and then a gentle plug in the Resource Box for his business.

Lastly, his Resource Box always contains a benefit-driven hook, such as an invitation to download a 32 page free report to further recommended reading resources on his website. Nice job Adam!

What’s an Ezine?

I’m speechless… thankfully, this is a blog and I don’t have to talk. I’m just amazed that there is such a huge incoming load of emails to us in the last month all asking the same question, “What is an Ezine?” or “I’ve never heard of an ezine used as a noun before” or variations of blank stares when we mention the word “Ezine” in any communication.

6 Months ago I wrote an article to address the question, “What is an Ezine?

Wendy Maynard - Author Spotlight

I went looking for an author who leveraged the new BestEzines inclusion in their extended author bio… and Wendy Maynard was the first that I found.

If you surf her extended bio, you’ll find a link that says:

Ezine URL: Remarkable Marketing

…and that links to her BestEzines submission. Pretty sweet integration, eh?

What else has Wendy done right?

Excellent author photo; Simple and very to-the-point USP (Unique Selling Proposition) that is benefit-focused in her extended bio; Her submissions are consistent over time — This proves that she knows marketing via articles is not a one-shot-charlie, but rather part of a plan that spans the entire year.

Nice job Wendy!

One of our missions with our authors membership interface is to make it more intuitive every day. Today we added some new icons that helps make it more blatantly clear whether an article is “live” or “not-live” on the public site.
(Article is live, accepted and on the public website)
(Pending approval by our article approval team)
(Problem article needs author attention)
(Article is in DRAFT mode)

It’s been a very long time since I’ve submitted an article to another website or any article directory, but something about Dale King’s new site, GuruKnowledge.org intrigued me… could just be the limited focus of his site (Internet Marketing), or the fact that he’s doing interviews with his authors (neat idea) or the fact that the site isn’t full of advertising yet, or that he didn’t use one of those free CMS’s to run his website, or that he was very fast to respond via email to questions I had.

Overload Us Please

Word on the street is that “SubmitYourArticle.com” has been coaching their clients to not overload publishers (such as us) with too many submissions in a short period of time might be considered ’spammy’.

For the record, we would PREFER that you overload us with as many hundreds of quality original articles that you have the exclusive rights to… Yes, that means you could send us a hundred new articles a day and we would not think anything less of you. :-) A few authors have dumped a few thousand per day to us.
