Recently Star Lawrence wrote a negative review of EzineArticles.com in her article, “Want Tens of Thousands of Content-Hungry Publishers Feeding on You?

EzineArticles Platinum author Soni Pitts (also giving a nod to her WriteLivelihood lens) countered with this letter to Ms. Lawrence:

You’ve seen it before… it’s where select keywords within an article (some call it “in-text” advertising) will be hotlinked to contextually relevant advertising. The companies that have approached us so far includes Kontera’s ContentLink, VibrantMedia’s IntelliTXT, and AdBrite.

You may also recall that we banned Publishers from including this form of media advertising because it falsely implies that the author endorses the link. See section 1.n. in the Publisher TOS.

The day is coming when we will no longer be a 100% syndicationable site. That means, we’re interested in giving our authors the choice as to whether they only want to have their articles on EzineArticles.com and not allow others to syndicate or use the articles… or

Direct Links To Your Membership Account

Rate This Post: 1 Stars2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars

A year ago, the problem began when authors would link publicly from their website to one of the URL’s within their membership account… then Google or any search engine would index the authors private access to their EzineArticles membership account.

Then, over the year, authors started figuring out that they could bookmark their login and access their account via a bookedmarked URL. In addition, many times an author would pass a membership-only URL via email to someone not knowingly giving them full access to their account.

Because of all this, the new membership system that came out of beta today has a different security system that will prevent the previous insecure functionality.

A few hours ago, with no fanfare, we flipped the switch and now the beta interface for our members is no longer in “beta”, but rather is *production-ready*. Thank you to the countless hundreds that gave us advice, guideance, counsel and told us how you wanted your membership interface built! We’re very excited to have a new membership platform that was rebuilt from the ground up that we can use to deliver new tools, services and features this year.

We’ve had a few authors ask us to allow more than (3) valid Amazon.com ISBN’s in their extended bio or if they should rotate their books.

Blog question of the day: How many books should we all an author to include in their extended author bio page? 3, 5, 7, 10 or perhaps unlimited and just show the top 3 at the top and put the rest at the bottom of the page below the fold?

Last night, an author was reported by an end-user for boring him to death. When I went to review the article, I found an excellent article laced with great advice… so I proceeded to review the resource box. This Platinum author had one link in his resource box and it was a deep link to the same article on his website. When you click on it to visit his website, he trapped the user by not giving them any easy way to navigate away from the page unless they clicked on an ad. This is wrong for too many reasons… and let’s start with the first big mistake:
