New Membership LevelRate This Post: I’ve been thinking for the past few days that we should have a new membership level called “BASIC PLUS” that allows 25 submissions. This would be for authors that have not earned Platinum, but used up their first 10 submissions.
Forum Article AuthorsRate This Post: If you’ve been reading my Article Marketing blog, you know that I’ve been identifying different patterns of article authors lately (SEO Authors, PR Article Authors, Paid SEO Guns, AdSense Authors, etc.)… Today, I’m introducing to you another pattern identified: “The Forum Article Author” Their MO: They create their articles based on past forum discussion posts they have sent over the past years. Lance Winslow is the master at this as I bet at least a 1,000 of his 1,600+ articles came from forum posts he created previously.
Duplicate ContentRate This Post: Enough already! There is so much mis-information in the marketplace that I wanted to address the fear that Jason Potash may have created (perhaps unintended) when he pitched his newest ArticleAnnouncer product a few weeks ago. The reason I think Jason introduced the fear was to show how his product offered 3 rotating resource boxes of content within the database design as the solution to the perceived problem of Google discounting sites for duplicate content (the idea that changing 10-20% of your article’s content prevents it from being considered substantially duplicate content in the eyes of the major search engines). There may be some truth to the fear, but let’s look into this issue further… Here is an excerpt from Google’s guidelines:
Article PowerRate This Post: Congrats are in order to Dina Giolitto for producing this new 49 page special report: ARTICLE POWER: Create Dynamite Web Articles and Watch Your Sales Explode I’ve read Dina’s special report and it’s a perfect intro guide for article writing newbies… not to mention I got a big head because she gave me a special mention in her intro. ;-) You can also get a free preview of her book. The one area that Dina has hit perfectly is her concept of: One Category. Nice job Dina and if you’re new to article marketing, Dina’s guide is a great value and definitely worth the money to get your own copy. I’m not sure I could have distilled it down to the simplicity that she has in this special report.
How Deep Is The WellRate This Post: Lance had posted a comment on my last blog post questioning (I’m sure playfully and with a serious tone at the same time) our solidity. Figured it was a pretty important set of questions as it shakes our tree to see how deep the roots go. In some of my responses, I reply to Lance, but in other cases, I’m speaking to our blog readers in general. Here were Lance’s questions and my responses to them:
Reject to RejectRate This Post: Thanks to everyone’s input and private emails about my idea to publish the 4771 articles that we had previously rejected over the past 11 months. After more consideration, it has become apparant to me that we have become a ‘more trusted partner’ to the search engines by rejecting those 4771 articles as we did not contribute to further littering the Internet with content that didn’t meet our editorial guidelines. Bottom line: The short-term extra ad-revenue buck is not worth the long-term partner decrease in value that we have with the major search engines. We’ll continue to focus on only accepting quality content that delivers exceptional value to our readers and those who syndicate our articles.
Reject To Accept IdeaRate This Post: Since we’ve started up in our site relaunch last August 5th, 2004 — we’ve rejected 4,771 articles (about 10.5% of all articles submitted) that didn’t meet our posted editorial guidelines. Today I had a crazy thought about creating a separate site to showcase the rejected articles …if for entertainment value alone as I hate the idea of throwing those articles into the digital bit bucket. The only reason I haven’t begun plans to make this a possibility is because we do not want to create enemies on purpose. In such a project, we wouldn’t include duplicate articles or plagiarized/trademark/copyright infringement works, but we would include articles that were too high in self promotional content, had affiliate links in them, were over-keyword optimized or had very poor punctuation, grammar, spelling, etc… What issues or obstacles do you think we should address before making such a project become a reality?
PR Article AuthorsRate This Post: One class lower than SEO Authors, in terms of sophistication, is the new breed of what I call: “PR Article Authors” These are PR (Public Relations) drones who think they can just submit a press release as if it were an educational and informative article. Really, these authors are hybrids as they are trying to grasp at the concept of article marketing to see if they can weave their publicity needs into this medium… The majority fail. Here are some tips to help PR Article Authors to “get a clue”:
Article Name GameRate This Post: Which name do you like best for describing what EzineArticles.com is? Are we a: Often we’re called an “Ezine” and while we have an ‘ezine’ and we do send every new article added to one of our real-time and daily summary permission-based email lists, we are not an technically an ‘ezine’, ok?
Hired Gun vs. SEO AuthorRate This Post: Someone internally had asked me to define the difference between a hired gun vs. an SEO author so that we could tell the difference. Let me give you an example: Margaret Wommack is an SEO author by my definition. She is highly proficient at creating keyword intelligent articles to promote her business interests. We actually like SEO authors that don’t go overboard and promote too hard, keep their 1-3 links in the resource box and as long as they never send in plagiarized works…we’re cool with it.
