Article Comment Voyeur

Want to sneak into the secret world of which ezine articles have comments posted to them?

We added a new feature to our sitemap today designed to help the search engines figure out which articles have comments posted on them.

I’m always amazed at how smart the various search engines are at figuring out which pages have the quality content vs. template pages waiting for content. This move is our attempt to help the search engines only index the ones that have original content on them.

Look for the “–>List All Comments under each category heading. Example: Here is a link to all of the comments on the Writing & Speaking articles that have Comments.

You know, I am having “one of those days,” but this just changed everything. I must send a humble and heartfelt THANK YOU ever so much to Lance Winslow for taking the time to comment on my articles. Lance, I read your articles too but I don’t comment much. Maybe I should start! Thanks again, EzineArticles- my face is aflame from the unexpected attention. I hope other authors are getting the same rush. -Dina

Chris, I don’t understand the rationale of this post. Does this mean that the only articles from submitting authors that you want indexed in the search engines are the articles to which various people have added comments?

If so, that would seem to defeat the purpose of authors writing articles in the first place.

Quality content is no guarantee that people will take the time to comment or even feel inclined to comment.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Dennis,

I meant that we want to help the search engines to index the articles comments.

We have over 38,000 articles right now, but only about 300 with comments on them. Rather than ask the search engines to index 38,000 pages of our site that have no comments on them, we are helping them to identify the articles that HAVE comments on them.

We already provide daily updated sitemap data with every new article added… so this new thing is just aimed at increasing search engine index efficiency so that the search engine bots can zero in on the 300+ articles with comments on them to display the article comments view of each article.

Hope that clears it up…
