Dina, It’s best to never add someone to your email list without their permission. What I think Kevin was talking about is using the URL at the bottom of an article to lead the person to a sales letter page where they will be sold on the reason why they should subscribe to his or her email newsletter. This then gives him a chance to educate you for free and help build a relationship that can be monetized in the future. [Reply] Comment provided May 27, 2005 at 4:21 PM

Dina, Thanks for your comments. To ‘capture leads’ I send the reader/information seeker to a page that allows them to sign up for my newsletter in order to get the additional information they are seeking. It clearly states they will be receiving not only the information to supplement the article but also will be subscribed to my newsletter. Hope that helps clear things up. Whew! That was so good, I feel like I should go smoke a cigarette.
I would love to know when it’s ethically appropriate to add someone to your subscriber list; or as it’s described herein: “capture leads.”
Thanks
-Dina
